How do I test my temp sensor? I pulled it from the cylinder head and plan to heat some water to 180 degrees and see if it sets it off. Do I need to have the lead "wired" to the cylinder head? I know the buzzer works by grounding the connection, I just want to see if it will go off if I get the engine too hot.

Re: Testing Temperature Sensor

Use an ohm meter or test light and test it on the kitchen stove. Meter should show open until the sensor closes. Then should show continuity. Test light off until sensor closes. Then it should turn on. If you've grounded the sensor lead and horn works, there is no need to leave the sensor connected. If you insist on doing it at the engine, yes, the sensor needs to be grounded.,

Re: Testing Temperature Sensor

Thanks ST, that's the solution we came up with as well, but with a cooking thermometer in the water. I'm assuming it will go off above 163 degrees. Is this correct?

Without the year of your motor , size , etc.

Also the color of the wire at the sensor , is it tan , or white and black.

I can't give you the proper temps.

Also cooking oil works better then water for the test .
