thats pretty much it, except for the fact that it was bored .60 over. I used alot of nicer parts in hopes it would turn out this well. The guy that owns the shop seems to think it is a bit much for a 17 footer. It is so damn quiet inside, but the ehxaust is beast. FYI, the gentlemen at the shop that did the machine work;redid the heads as well. also went EFI. AChris, I am so glad you told me about the engine alignment with the prop. I now realize that can be quite the mistake. Thanks again guys, I will keep you posted with the outcome. I have to get manual trims now. and all new guages. any suggestions?

16Pilot,
Was this a Vortec engine?
Did they get a torque curve as well when they dyno'd? Interesting to see where the torque started climbing, and how it compares to a v8. I am looking to gain performance on an older (non-vortec) 4.3 2 bbl (175 hp -1986). I wonder if I could hit 200hp with a Edelbrock intake and 4 bbl...

Yeah guys, I think the guy helping me out with this deal is full of crap at 257hp beacuse I talked to a guy at a show last week that put a lot more money in his 4.3 and he is only in the 220's. As soon I find another performance shop somewhere close, I will have it checked again and keep you posted.

Re: Thanks guys ! Its been 3 months but she is like new!

hello
257 HP out of that motor is well within reason.
back when I raced and built motors for other racers we found that if you work it up on paper you can make amazing HP with that motor.
but first on the list is where and how you wish to peak the HP and torque curve. that entails looking at gear ratios and body (hull) wieghts.
I have seen to many cams, heads, carbs and intakes installed and the car actually ran slower due to transmission and rear gear ratios.
then some one like me would take their money out on 174 near blum texas :)
so just remember that increasing engine output entails more than just raw horse power. but it does help :) :)
can I build a 4.3 that will turn 7200 in the 1/4 mile? yep. can I build one that will turn 7200 for an hour? yep. but the cost of the two motors is gonna hurt. and most boat propellers lose a lot above about 2500 rpm on the prop speed
speed cost money. how fast ya wanna go ?

50+ is ideal
I really took my time on this motor Rod, I built it with high performance parts so it could handle the stress, but I didnt want to be stupid either. I think I am going with a 21 pitch Hustler Prop and see where that takes me.
