A few months ago I posted here looking for help on finding the proper flywheel for a GM Mercruiser 3.0 liter long block I had bought from an individual that had sat in storage for a few years still in the shrink wrap. While there was a number stamped into the block that suggested the block was originally manufactured in 1997, we just weren't too sure what it was going to take to complete the engine. Somebody here put me on the right track almost immediately and I discovered that there were two different flywheels for my engine, depending on whether it had a one-piece or two-piece rear seal.

Today my boat's repair/restoration is almost complete with the new engine, new deck, new carpet, new upholstery and seats, new stainless deck hardware and rails, and a partial repaint of the upper deck with Awlgrip which matched the older gelcoat perfectly. More to the point, today the engine started for the first time. After a couple of missteps (loose oil drain plug, a couple of loose hoses, we got the leaks all stopped and the timing set. The engine sounds GREAT!

With any luck, I'll be putting it in the water for the first time in a year over the weekend... just in time to winterize it in another month or so. But I have a boat again and I am sooooo glad.

I thank you guys again for pointing me in the right direction when I had exhausted my other sources. I couldn't have gotten it done without you. :)
