That dipstick on the 3.0L engine

Okay, so I'm in the middle of replacing the engine in my boat. The engine is being replaced by a new one purchased from Doug Russell. It's a base new engine so I have to move all the accessories from the old engine to the new one. Obviously this involves purchasing some additional gaskets and sealants which has been perfectly acceptable. But there's one thing I did not expect. The Dipstick. The one on the old engine looks acceptable, is not bend or anything, but I have no idea how to remove it and then re-install it in the new engine...

Except for that one issue the swap has been very straight forward. Any thoughts?

BTW the boat is a 1998 Sea Ray 180 w/ a 3.0L 4 cylinder and a Alpha one Gen II drive.

Remove the oil pan and tap the old dipstick tube up out of the block.

They just press in. There should be a little ring at the block that acts as a stop. Pry it up from there.
I have seen dipstick tubes that are a little rusty that are a real PITA to get out. I usually just replace them if this is the case.

As Don stated, punch out from inside of oil pan with a round pipe of sort. To put in new motor, I used a 3/8" open end wrench on the ridge and hit it with a hammer.

Thanks everyone! I was a tad bit confused because I made the initial assumption that the dipstick was an o-ring/set screw combo to hold it in place.

I'll send out a little summary when it's all complete!
