At least here in NY, the governor has decided that in 2006, September 11 will become a holiday.

This is a good thing, I think!?!

The people of NY still feel the impacts of that day, everyday.

Maybe the holiday can ease the pain of some.

Kenny

I was thinking it should be made a national holiday. It will go down in hitory as one day that changed the world. Even more so than Dec 7, 1941... I don't think there are too many single days in the history of this nation that had the same level of impact.

I have to disagree on making September 11 a national holiday.

After about 8 - 10 years, the date would just become another day for the retail stores to hold another sale day and a day for the beer manufacturers to promote another excuse to get drunk.

Kenny

I hope you are right gonfishin .

Maybe I'm just being toooooo optomistic about the impact of that day in the future, but look at what has happened to other holidays, like Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is no longer a day that we mourn those who sacraficed their lives for our freedoms.

It has become the unofficial beginning of summer, with the big summer sale at K-Mart and Walmart, and every beer company is promoting the beginning of summer with a beer bash somewhere.

I am really afraid that if September 11 becomes a national holiday, it will just become another day off of work for most people in the near future.

When was the last time you saw 18 - 20 year olds at your Memorial Day Parade?

At least where I live, the reasons for Memorial Day are no longer observed, and that is sad.

Kenny

The best thing that they should have done with the World Trade Center site, would have to left all that debris there for all to see.

The area was cleared out so quickly, that most Americans never really saw the devistation other than in pictures.

Pictures will never give anyone a real sence of what it was like down there.

And the smell...oh, the smell.

That is something most Americans will never experience first hand, unless you were in NYC within the 1st two months after the attacks.

Just thinking about the smell, brings that memory back and now I can smell it again.

So much for lunch today!

Kenny

A bottle of Snapple and 3 ritz crackers for lunch.

They all smelled and tasted like the WTC site.

And my boss won't let me go home early!

Kenny
