Finally finished installing the post that hides a steel column. That was the last of the details. I'm calling it a done project.

Ordered this 10" round tapered wood post from Home Depot. Specified all pieces were to be split so I could fit it around the 4" steel column. Glued and painted, this is how it came out.

You can see the finished photos of the project here. Skip to the second page of pictures to see the final photos.

Basement Project

This project ran from March 22 2004 through last week. I did everthing but the tape and spackle work. And I did the 65 MFG Boat restoration project during the summers too.

I need a rest.

Re: The Basement Project is Officially DONE!

Thanks for all the nice comments!

The whole family pitched in on this project. I'm really glad to see the kids using it a lot.

Plus we got exactly what we wanted and we got a quality product.

Next project is to completely redo the fist floor family room. At least it won't be as big a job as the basement. Just a few built in book cases, desk, and entertainment center. And we want to remove the raised hearth and brick face on the fireplace and install a flush with the floor hearth and stone face on the fireplace floor to ceiling.

But I think I'll rest and let the finances recover a bit....

Plus the boating season is coming up! Can't take time from that!

Great job Mark! Still wanting to finish mine, but I have to wait until heating season is over. Sawdust and my woodburner won't mix too well.

Re: The Basement Project is Officially DONE!

One thing that helped a lot was a 3d home design software package we bought right up front. That way as I designed the layout my wife could see in 3d "walk through" mode exactly what I had in mind. Then she would change my mind! LOL!

No kidding, the software saved a lot of trial and error when it came to laying out the office, and work shop (door by office) and storage area (door by stairs). It even let us change floor covering, wall color and textures, lighting effects, the maple trim on top of the office and stair walls, etc.
