I'm in the screen printing biz and last year (especially end of year) was a flop... way down... like 25% or more... My suppliers were even calling asking "you're not buying, whats up"...

So far this year durring jan-feb. i'm usually not busy at all and after 14 years I've come to expect that... This year, the first three months have been way up much to my suprise.. Busy as a one legged man in a butt kickin' contest.. Hope it keeps up...

Re: the Economy???

It's a guessing game, all tied to the war, oil prices, and proposed tax cuts.
If the war ends in swift, less-costly victory, the economy will shoot up like crazy.
If the war stagnates, the economy will also reflect that. BTW, even tho I'm a municple werker,who will be retiring in 130days, my spouse cannot find a job, which means two things;

We are financially scraping bottom.

I'll have to join her in looking for a job after I retire.
30 years, and there's no light at the end of the tunnel.....Yet.
We got faith and each other tho.

12footer-- I didn't even know there was a tunnel. Now I'm supposed to look for light at the end of it?

Re: the Economy???

Heck I am in the one profession where I should feel secure in my job right? Wrong there is a small chance I could be out on the street pounding pavement in a couple of months it is unlikely but possible unless they come up with the money they promised the schools then did not deliver.

In this area everything is tied to the auto industry. That is when you consider that everyone around here knows someone who works in that field.
My current occupation, selling safety supllies, has actually been doing better the las few weeks. Most of this is due to the military action, and the threat of biological and chemical warfare.
With that being said, the only way I see the economy turning right now is with a swift and decisive end to the situation in Iraq.

Re: the Economy???

I diagnose, repair and maintain automobiles. It was cyclical in the 70's and 80's. The early 90's it was strong. The late '90's it was consistantly strong. Since 99 to present and currently, I've been too busy. I'm booked weeks in advance and working long and hard. I'm throwing money at the bank and at playtoys.

To bad for the country we had a terrorist attack. That and all the following steps to secure the skys and the country and the war were responsible for the flat economy.
The media and the Democrats say it's more then that, but I don't believe them.

The markets are closely tied to people's emotions. Right now people feel good that at last - steps are being taken to sort out some of the very serious problems we face in the world.

Once Saddam is history and bin Laden's been caught, that will be a load off people's minds. Hopefully it will reduce all the scare-mongering that's been going on.

All credit to George W Bush, a man who backs up his words with action. People will take more notice of his words in future.

A pity I can't say the same for the UN, or so many other world leaders.

I am in the courier service and landscape business and I must say that last year was a good year and the start of this year has been good.

I figure after the war starts that my courier service will slack just a little cause 95% of that business is with banks and I just kinda figure people will bank less as in spending money until they see about this war.

Re: the Economy???

The one reason I feel that the economy is down is due to the credit card companys.

I know that in my case, the majority of my money goes to that high intrest. I can't buy product until I get the balances down. If there is others out there like me, they put everything on plastic for Christmas and then use the rest of the year paying the stuff off.

5 to 10 times a week I am bombarded by financers wanting to refinance my house. I am tired of them wasting my time of having to tell them NO! I do not want to refinance to pay off the plastic.

I have emailed Lowes and Home Depot about their intrest rates. Their response was that the offer 6 and 12 months with not intrest. Yeah right if you buy product over a certain amount.

If they would have a lower intrest rate, the suppliers would be able to sell more of the product.

Just my thought on the subject.
