A good year, even though I was still in the service at the time. My future father-in-law still hadn't bought a TV because he thought they were a fad and would soon die out. He didn't want to be stuck with something that he could no longer use. He was serious. Came home on leave that year and my father had bought a '57 Chevy Bel Air. Had no idea it would eventually become a classic.

My father quit smoking when Cig's went to $.25 a pack. Now in Jersey they are about $5.00 a pack. Thank God I don't smoke. I would rather drink my money than burn it. :D

This was good and I shared it with several
friends.. on #6 Did gas really get up to $00.29
a gal in 1957?
Three of us were in the service at Ft Bragg
between 69-72 and remember only paying .16-.19
a gal?

Some of the prices here are too high, but the none are too low for 1957. In 1957 a brand new ford F100 (this was the big one at the time, as the F150 was not born yet, and the only mini pick ups were the volkswagon, and the crosley) was $1500.00. In 1955 I bought a new 1955 Buick convertible for $3500.00 fully equipped, I had a rough time making up my mind between the Buick convertible, or the 1955 Corvette, which both cost approximately the same amount, but I went for the bigger car, as i did not want to get stuck with a 2 passenger vehicle. Gas was cheaper than stated here in the area that I was raised in at least, and also where I served in the military about that time. :D :D
