OK, maybe not, but Mars itself is nearing its <br />closest point to Earth since Neanderthals walked<br />this planet."Some still do".<br />Mars will be at its nearest on the night of Aug 27<br />when it will be less than 34.65 million miles<br />away from Earth. The last time it was so close<br />was Sept 12, 57617 BC. Its the closest on the <br />record books it has been in 60,000 years and<br />certainly the closest in this generation.

Lets hope the weather cooperates so that we all will be able to see it.<br /><br />But the way the weather has been lately, it looks like alot of us will miss it. <br /><br />Hope SBN has one of those alien language books, we might need it! LoL<br /><br />Kenny

Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August, Mars will rise in<br />the east at 10 PM and reach its azimuth at about 3 AM. But by the end of<br />August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and<br />reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30 AM.

Its the brightest, reddish planet low in the<br />southeast sky. It will be the brightest natural<br />object in the sky except for the sun and moon.<br />Venus will be hidden behind the sun when Mars <br />comes closest to Earth.

Dont forget to look up tonight, for the best veiw <br />of Mars. You should get a clear view of the red<br />planet with binoculars.

so tonight being the 28th by the time 1230 rolls around, Mars will have zipped off into its usual spot and ya wont be able to see it as well? lol<br /><br />I guess binoculars wont help with observing the thing, what with it being 36 million miles away and all<br /><br />

We have cloud cover here.<br />Couldn't see Mars last night , But the view <br />should be pretty much the same till mid to late<br />September.So there should be plenty of opportunity<br />to get a good look.<br />Has anybody made contact with the landing party<br />yet.
