Their is an old guy who has walked by our house two times a day for as long as we've lived here. He walks a little boxer bog.

Behind our house is a little park, and a pathway between the part and out street runs next to our driveway. I was sitting here (on the computer) and my sister came runing into the house and said (their is a dead guy in the woods!!!!!!!!) She got me real scaired. I told her to stay in the house and I ran out to see what was going on. I found the guy who I waved to every day since I was a baby laying on top of a bunch of branchs with his dog laying next to him, poor dog dident know what was going on.

I could see him breathing, and with jabed him he opend his eyes. I tryed to stand him up but he was too heavy, I called for my friend (he was down the street) and him and I were able to get him into a lawn chair I got from our back yard. Once we got him up he said not to call 911. After about 5minetts of searching I found his glasses. He was really out of it, he was acting drunk, but I knew had not been drinking.

Then he just started rambing he said that he is 79years old  . After trying for a while I got a phone number out of him, I called his son and he came and picked him up, he was takeing him to the ER. He was unable to walk to his son's truck, he had to drive into the woods to get him, he messed up his knee I think :(

That was my action for the day, I feel bad for the guy, I never really talked to him..... but he would always say "hi" and wave with he walked buy.... seemed like a nice guy. I hope he's alright.

That's all well and good Ryan, but when you find some one that has fallen, you should not try to move them for they may have a neck or back injury and could have been a lot worse.

Should have covered him up good and called 911 immediately.

Glad it worked out though.

Just remember, they may have neck or back injuries. :)

Ryan, you and your sister probably saved that guy's life! You and she should be proud.
You probably should have called 911 from the git-go, before you called your friend, even though he told you not to. Being as disoriented as he seemed (by your description), you might not have known what happened to him to get him face-down on the dirt; whether he's a diabetic or a heart patient, or one of a gazillion other physical problems he might suffer from, where he shouldn't have been moved.
Anyway, don't want to preach or detract from your heroic efforts. Good Work!

Oops! SBN snuck his in while I was writing...

The reason I moved him was because I have always see him around he he has always looked good, not sick.

I did'ent call my friend on the phone, I yelled to him, he was down the street playing Basketball.

My dad told me I should not have moved him too.

But when you see someone laying facedown in rotten grass, it was just the first thing that came to my mind.

I understand Ryan and that is anyone's first instinct is to help them up, but being that old, you never know, but like I said, I am glad it worked out.

Just be careful when in a situation like that.

Sounds like he may have had a stroke.
That would explain not being able to walk to good and the dis-orientation.

Sounds like it.
I have a lot of experience with that and your description sounds like a good case for it.

Ryan!!!! I cannot stress it enough! As a lifeguard, if you suspect if a victim has a head, neck, or back injury, you DO NOT move the victim. Provide care right there.

Any movement can further hurt the victim! Call 9-1-1 immediately. MAKE SURE to monitor the victims circulation. If the victim goes unconscious, call 911.

Little lifeguard info goes a long way.

JAZZ

He was conscious the whole time, and talking to me, he just was makeing no sence.

I dident suspect a back ot neck injury, because it looked like he fell worward. Their where some branchs under him, I thought he may have broken some ribs on them.

I still don't know what happend with him, I think I'll know by tomorow.

Hey Ryan, Nice going. It was a good thing you and your sister were there to help -- especially with how cold it was today! He would not have been too well off if he was stranded there for long with the cold temps we had here in Mass. today. Good job! Keep us posted on how he does. --Derek

Re: The old guy who walks his dog.

It was cold today, but not to bad being I was in the yard most of the day picking up leaves. I was in eating lunch at the time it happend and stopped at the putter, but it was cold for this time of year.

Ryan,

I think you were great in looking out for the old guy.....

Just a question, do you know what's going to happen to the dog?

I'm one of those old guys (or hope to be one day; only 35 now) that walk his dog every, every day...and know many people just to say 'Hi'....

Re: The old guy who walks his dog.

Hats off to you Ryan..I was in the para medical field over 25 years plus and held many basic cpr classes at the local schools..Check with Red Cross and take some basic classes..I agree with Spinner moving an injured person without proper triage endangers more than helps in certain trauma cases..

Many times when responding to heart Attacks I would see people just standing around and doing nothing because they never took the time to take some basic classes. Many times a life was lost because of precious minutes lost by not doing cpr.
You never know in life when you will be glad you took the time to learn..Well done Ryan..
