Well guys...I'm back. Did ya' ever have one of those trips that you wish would never end? A trip where everything is just right? Fish jumping in tha' creel and libations abounding. Weather so great ya' can't believe it's happening to you? Did ya' ever have one?

Well......this wasn't it for me and my buds. Oh the weather was fine. Fishing in shorts and shirt sleeves. To bad the lake level and fish didn't cooperate. The lake at it's crest was 20ft. above normal of 300. But we tried. I couldn't get a fish if it jumped in the boat. The lake died. Tried everything short of depth charges. So we packed up early and started home. But it wasn't over. Bout 80 miles from home, my buddy Waynes boat decided to blow a spring. I looked in the mirror just in time to see his boat side ways in the highway....off the trailer. My heart stopped. My dad was riding with Wayne. Luckily Wayne held on to it and managed to keep it from getting worse and dragged everything over to the side of the road. Boats busted up pretty good. Motor looks salvagable and the trailer may need replaced. Brought it home on a roll back. Both Dad and Wayne were OK albeit a little shook from the wild ride. The God of Fishermen was looking after us today. I'm still a little shaky.

So.....how was everybody elses week?

Better than Wayne. That's got to be the classic boaters worst fear.Hope everything works out for him.I guess you guys already had time to change your shorts.

Well,my boats rigged and ready for tomorrow.Don't have too high of hopes since the wind will be 20-25 .Just going to shake off some of the cobwebs and see if the wife and I can lose a bait or two.By the way,I know this may sound weird, but she's my best fishing buddy.

Re: The Perfect Trip

Ditto all that! Glad you guys weren't hurt!

My weekend went a little better, as I spent it with good friends from a local forum (FSonline) on the Sanibel Island Causeway. there was a chili cook-off, and fishin tourney of sorts. But mostly, just a group of local friendly fishing folks and families. After the get-together, I tried my luck inside, and caught a few trout, but nothing sprectacular. The "red tide" kinda beat the fish down, but it really wasn't noticable other than that. The boat ramp at Punta Rasa was it's normal "zoo" self. I would pay the county for the priveledge of installing a web cam on this 8-lane ramp from Ringling brothers  Not my favorite ramp, as you may have guessed.
It was very windy, and about as rough as I dare to venture out in. While at anchor at the causeway, I had several waves breaking over the bow!
Good thing I had a good bildge pump!
but we had fun. I get to make up for all that fun this weekend, tho, as I'm remodeling the master bedroom.

Re: The Perfect Trip

Thanks for the post's guys. I really do apprecitate it. The guys I fish with are all retired except for two of us. They call us the "kids". Right. I'm the youngest at 56. LOL...Good times with these guys. I can't say enough about them. Always making the best out of a bad situation. And we've had a couple. Well...this one will definitly go down in the scrap book...took some pictures with my digital camera I'll post in a couple days. Never give it a thought to get some picturs of the boat laying on the highway. But....like ya'll said...everybody home save and sound. That's the bottom line. :D :D
