The Project: Chapter 1, sterndrive having separation issues

Well, I have attempted to take my Volvo Penta SX-M stern drive off today and have failed. Thanks to Don, I have the manual. I have gone though the steps from pages 228 to 230. The shift cable is out, the shaft for the trim cylinders is out and the six nuts are off. Step 10 "Pull sterndrive away from transom bracket.." is where I'm stuck. I am using an engine hoist and straps. I tried putting a bolt in where the dipstick goes to pull from the top more it still does not want to come out. I tried prying it some but I don't want to damage the surfaces where the rubber gasket is. The dead motor has to come out sooner or later should I go after that first? It seems better to have the sterndrive out of the way before getting the motor. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance. I am glad to have found a good helpful forum as opposed to some other ones I have read. My name is Art but my friends call me Yachty.

Ayuh,... A couple tricks for popping off a Merc are lifting the drive to full height,+ Slamming it down....
Another is to reattach the trim rams,+ using the Hyd.s to pop it off...
Or,...
Pull the motor,+ Beat it out with a BFH.....

see if you can lift the drive up and jam a 2x4 in between the drive and the transom plate and use it as a pivot point while slamming the drive down.

Whoa, good thing you caught me, I was going to try it in 4WD High. ;)
I guess "slamming it down" is just not factory manual lingo. Thanks for the green light on more force.
