My Step-daughter came home last night complaining about here job, sore feet, crappy customers, etc.... Kicker Is this is her First job and has only worked there for 4 days. Daddy always took care of things. Sheesh, I saw this and had to post it if only just to vent.........................................................

Charles Sykes is the author of DUMBING DOWN OUR KIDS. In his book, he talks about how the liberal, feel-good, politically correct garbage has created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1 Life is not fair; get used to it.

Rule 2 The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world Will expect You to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3 You will not make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice president with a car phone until you "earn" both.

Rule 4 If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. He doesn't have tenure.

Rule 5 Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping; they called it opportunity.

Rule 6 If you screw up, it's not your parents' fault so don't whine about your mistakes. Learn from them.

Rule 7 Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way paying your bills, cleaning your room and listening to you tell them how idealistic you are. So before you save the rain forest from the blood-sucking parasites of your parents' generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8 Your school may have done away with winners and losers but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades, they'll give you as many chances as you want to got the right answer. This, of course, bears not the slightest resemblance to anything in real life.

Rule 9 Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10 Television is not real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11 Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

Re: The Real World

I have two step daughters. The youngest looks to me as if I am her dad. She is starting to become a hand full though now that she is into her teen years. The oldest, she is a nightmare. She is a daddys girl. This would be good, if her daddy wasn't running from the law as a deadbeat that smokes pot and doesnt pay taxes. This man is in his 50's mind you.

She too complains about her job from the time she started. Then she started trying the excuse that she couldn't do chores around the house. She wasn't around to dirty anything, and she was tired after work and school. She claimed that she has to go to work after school, and her mom can just come home. I am not sure why this girl is still breathing after that comment. But her mother did have a severe talk with her, which was forgotten the next day.

This girl of course hates me, because I mention times that she does dirty things around the house. That doesn't help her cop out plan I guess. She really does not like when I ask her what time and date it is. Then I ask her what that is in her hand. She replies "a cup, or a bowl, why"? I don't think she gets it. I wonder if she is really that stupid, or just a really good actor.

So, I guess I am trying to say that I REALLY know where you are coming from here. I feel for you.

Re: The Real World

How did this become a "liberal" issue? I'm curious. Liberals don't have to work for a living in your world? When did that happen?

And conservatives don't have lazy kids at times?

It may well be a parenting issue, but it is not a "liberal" vs. "conservative" issue.

    Plywoody this has nothing to to with liberal or conservative except in the way we raise our kids. Her real father is extremly liberal in how the kids where raise anything they wanted they got. Money buys everything. Th kids have never learned the value of the buck. So if you looking to put a label on it put it there. If old fashion family values are conservative count me as one.

Re: The Real World

hello
:)
My 18 year old daughter just got mad and moved out last summer. I demanded she get a job cause I was no longer going to buy horse feed and hay like I started doing in 98.I spent the past two tears trying to tell her that the real world is a beyatch. no one cares and one ah shoot knocks over a whole stack of atta boy's. but the icing on the cake was when she was telling me what I could and coulkd not do in my house. now she lives with her mom telling the world how mean I am >
Oh well :) at least the money I spent in 2002 sending her to Oklahoma horse traing school may pay off:)
I love this post. I may have my 13 year old memorize it :) :)

Plywoody,

This is an so clearly a smack on the liberal philosophies, how could you possibly miss it.

Life isn't fair-therefore liberals will tax the winners until they are the same as the losers. Graduated income tax- liberal

Self esteem-outcome based education- liberal

Entitlements- liberal

Teachers- as a group who is more liberal and more wrong?

Class envy- liberal liberal liberal

No personal responsiblity- Trial lawyers (yep liberal)

Miopic views that they are the only ones with a point of view worth listening to. When was the last time you hear a bunch of conservatives shouting down a liberal.

There are no winners and losers- liberal

Television is a disease- Have you seen "The Real World"? Eight people, 4 men, 4 women, 1 or 2 of them homosexual, thrown together in a mansion and getting internships at record companies? I live in the real world, that bears no resemblance to it.

I must say that liberals are just as likely to be nice to nerds.

Plywoody, Charlie Sykes is a conservative commentator, who writes about conservative issues, and you may not have hear of him because of the liberal press.

Sorry

Re: The Real World

When I was a teenager I had a huge dust up withmy parents. I gave my mother absolute stink and my father put up with a week of oral tirade that would make a policeman blink twice. I even punched him out.
The point is that immediately after I'd hit him I felt stink and sent my mother a bunch of flowers, bought a second bunch and went to dads work and apologised. They both graciously accepted my apologies and never was it mentioned again.
The lesson learnt from looking back was that they'd taught me well and even though I decided to let loose and be so arrogant and anti-authority they still knew they were doing right. They let me make the mistake and then waited for me to apologise. They didn't chase me about demanding I make up or anything. I live them more for that.........
I hope my children and grandchildren learn the same from their parents, without the anger, of course.....
Good post jgregory.
Ross
