:) Old time deer hunters always insisted that the rut was brought on by cold weather!!!<br /><br />In reality the length of the day brings on the rut!!! It starts the same time every year up and down the eastern seaboard to North Carolina and the "Peak" breeding activity last 10 days!!! Those dates are about Nov13th and ends around the25th of the month!!!<br /><br />"Rut" is a misleading term!!! Bucks and does are physically ready to breed from mid October-December!!! Older does may copulate early and young females may still come into estrus in December !!!! ;)

Re: THE RUT

If a doe is not berd when she goes in estrus she will come into estrus again one month later.

Fact: fawns that chase momma across the road may get hit by a car. The sheriff just left my house because someone hit one of our resident fawns.

Re: THE RUT

This evening a big buck comes racing through my back yard. Me and my 2yr old son are out walking when I see the buck headed our way. My daughter is about 50ft away to my left. I grabbed my son just as the buck realized we were there and in his path. He skid to a halt about 20 ft away and bobbed his head a few times. Man, those antlers look big when they are being waved in your face!!! Then he snorted, turned and charged back the way he came. I was seriously worried for the safety of my kids (read "I nearly **** my pants"). Really thought he was charging to protect his herd of does, but I didn't see any. Something must have spooked him.

Re: THE RUT

The rut is ON here. The bucks have been running the does hard for about a week now. OMC is right the does will come into season again if they are not bred the first time. The does drop there fawns over a period of 2 or 3 months, a reflection on when they were bred. <br /><br /><br />This guy here hangs around the house all the time, been having a fine time with the local ladies as of late. Been watching him for a little over a year now. Caught him on the trail cam.<br /><br />

I qiut hunting a few years back cause the thrill of killing critters just was not there.<br /> however I will defend the right of critter killing to my grave.<br /> now I hunt them with a camera. I dont need the meat and I dont like it.<br /> if ya wanna play on the range with a few wagers all ya gotta do is ask><br /> <br /> we can play at 100,300or 1000 yds. a kill is assured. but I will defend hunting to my dying breath.<br /> guess thatr labels me someplace
