does any one know the significance of OMC-BRP breaking their model number system???

while looking around for head and thermostatd differences on some motors I have I found some oddball model numbers

this is one:

http://www.boats.net/parts/search/BRP/JOHNSON/1992/J150ELANC 1992/parts.html

the INTRODUCES...
1234567890
system should put this 1992 motor as J150ELENC( which they also have one of)

they have a lot of weird stuff in the 150 hp range...

I foun dit because the head styel and thermostats developed on the 150s eventually ended up on the 60 degree eagle V4 blocks!!

is there a source for find out if a motor also had a special name attached to it...

like the SL motors were ocean runners and ocean pros

and the GL motors were FAST STRIKES and INTRUDERS

funny I went to the BRP site and found it different than your listing:

http://epc.brp.com/Index.aspx?lang=...-8153-b2a4aa9d4d0e&brands=ej&dealerlocator=no
( well you have to select JOHNSON, then 1992, then 150 hp to get to the page i wanted to show)

has the oddball in there where your listing doesnt!!!

go figure..

I thought the site i was using , just used the BRP info!!

E150EXENC 1992

I am probably not being clear...but i was commenting on model numbers that seem OUT of PLACE!!

theE150EXENC is a normal model number..

and it appears that the oddball out of place model numbers only happens on the johnson motors, not the evinrude motors

go to my link, select johnson, select 1992, select 150 hp..and you will see some model numbers that have an "a" in place of the "e"..

the "E" normally represents 9 for any year in the 90's

92 being EN

but there are a few modles that have an "A" where the "E" would go

like the link example in my first post..

Sure does, doesn't it? I checked it against another list and it shows the odd-balls too. It violates the rules. I don't have the answer.

I think you'll find it applies to two or three other HP sizes as well.

Somebody got his set of letter stamps in a muddle and a few hundred motors went through the factory before it was noticed. Easier to just include the numbers in the lists than to correct the mistake.

They will be like coins that have been incorrectly minted or postage stamps that have some error on them... worth a fortune in few years time! ;)
