Thermastat MISSING ?

Hi ya'll
Ok i purchased a new thermastat, gasket, seal, clip, housing, only thing they didn't have was the spring. So i'm like i'll just reuse the old one.
So I pull the thermastat cover off my 1993 force 120 that seems to run great I just bought the boat a couple of weeks ago
and to my surprise there was nothing except the seal. NO thermastat NO spring, clip nothing.
What's the deal?
Is this a real bad thing to run with no thermastat?
I have everything to replace it except the spring I can't find one anywhere.
Did someone do this maybe because of another problem like overheating?
Any help please.

Re: Thermastat MISSING ?

Who knows why the thermostat is missing. The motor was designed to run at a specific temperature range for best power and efficiency. It's best to run it with a thermostat.

Here's a place that shows the spring. Call them to verify they actually have it in stock.

Re: Thermastat MISSING ?

Thanks a bunch I just found that same site it's the only one that says NLA.
so I will call them in the morning. Keeping my finger crossed.
I'm also thinking I got either the wrong seal or thermastat cause the tstat fits through the seal hole.Isn't it supposed to seat up with the seal? I ordered the seal and clip and housing from boats.net and the tstat came from seirra.
Thanks for the quick response

Re: Thermastat MISSING ?

I live in south florida. During winter there are too many tourists driving like drunken maniacs and my boat rarely leaves dock. During summer the water is always 85-90 degrees. Many people remove their thermostats down here. It's an extra point of failure in saltwater and our water is so warm that it doesn't make much difference.

So maybe you got a saltwater boat from someplace with nice warm water?

Re: Thermastat MISSING ?

It could be that it was overheating for the P.O.. I pulled mine due to it overheating after replacing all the hoses & raw water pump. As soon as I pulled it and the springs and balls...it was good to go. I later replaced risers & manifolds and replace the Tstat...still over heated. I pulled it once again and it's been like that ever since.
