Thermostat Impact Gas Usage

I have a volvo 4.3 on a pontoon boat that is getting terrible gas mileage. I was told by the marina I have a bad thermostat on my engine. Can the two issues be related? I am new to boating.

i can if if it is open all the time and never lets the engine warm up, then it will run with the chock on, or in open loop mode all the time.

My question is i have never seen a pontoon with an I/O drive before.
Not saying you dont have it, Ive just never seen one.

Ayuh,... Probably Not,... I suspect you have atleast 2 different Issues going on...
