My 88 force 50hp sometimes over heats as I throttle it up, I have another post about that. I just removed and tested the thermostat and it opens in 135degree water. I ran the engine for a minute or two in a test barrel without the thermostat and it ran a cool 70 degrees, didnt even heat up. Is my thermostat bad?

Re: Thermostat replacement.

It sounds like it may not be opening all the way. May be hanging partially open restricting full flow of water at higher RPM's. I'd replace it.

Re: Thermostat replacement/ correct thermostat.

Re: Thermostat replacement/ correct thermostat.

What is the correct thermostat to get for my 88 force 50hp? I am pretty sure the manual says 140 degree thermostat. When i ordered one from boats.net, they sent me a 130 degree therm. I cannot remember which one it is exactly because my manual has been destroyed. Thanks..model number 507x8c.
