Hi at the risk of sounding stupid I have a question about replacing a thermostat in a 1985 AQ260A. the old stat was removed by previous owner I found that the water nipple on the out drive was not attached secondary to corrosion. I have replace that, in the housing there seems to be an indentation to push the new stat in. The kit came with 2 rubber washers which both seem to fit around the new stat . But when I put around the stat I?m unable to get that to go in the groove. If I put the rubber gasket in first and then the stat on top of it appears to stay in place is this the right way or does the rubber gasket have to be around the stat prior to installing. Thanks for any advice??? Sparky

Re: thermostat replacement

There is a c-clip that comes out. Put the rubber gasket around the thermostat, put it up in the thermostat housing and put the clip back in.
