Thermostat

I've got a 50hp 3-cyl Mercury from 1987. It seems to have no thermostat in the cooling system. Anybody who could confirm that?<br /><br />My shopmanual and my partslist did not show any thermostat.<br /><br />I want to fit a water pressure gauge. There is a 1/8" brass plug in the cylinder head. Would that be the right place to connect the water pressure gauge?

That would be correct, there is no thermostat on that model. The small brass plug you speak of is the connection point for the pressure gauge.
