Can anyone explain briefly how to go about removing the thermostat on a 1989 OMC Cobra 2.3L engine. I want to check to see if boat runs hot without it in. I have replaced the impeller although it was intact, the housing had a couple of spots where it appeared to have some melting. Is it a difficult job to remove the thermostat and can it be done without removing the thermostat housing. Any diagrams that can be provided of thermostat would be much appreciated - I have seen the engine diagram where the thermostat housing is located on front left of engine if standing in front of engine. Thanks!

Re: Thermostat

Howdy,

The thermostat housing is shown in the picture below from Doug Russell parts

If you click above link you can view the list of parts.
The thermostat housing is #18 and the thermostat is #22

Be careful with the housing, a new one may not be available.
