I know several people that do not run a thermostat in their outboard, will this hurt anything,is it a good idea?
Most of them say the reason for not using 1 is because they have had problems with them clogging because of the muddy river water.
I leave my boat in the river 90% of the time and use it almost daily,my motor seems to run just a little on the warm side so i was thinking of removing the t-stats.
Just last night i put a new water pump rebuild kit on,tested it with muffs worked great.took the boat to the river ran it for about 15 minutes then just floated at an idle, after idling for 10 min or so my overheat buzzer came on.water was coming out of the tel-tail as supposed to.
I shut it off for about 15 min then re-started and went back to the dock and just sat there at an idle for a good 15-20 min and the buzzer never came on again.
Main thing i want to know is if it's OK to run an outboard without a t-stat?

new head gaskets, exhaust gaskets even in the lower unit and whole new water pump.
