I know the person who stole my wakeboard rack will never read this because I'm sure there are only honest, hard working members on this site, but at least putting this thread out there on the web makes me feel better.

Between July 4th and July 13th, some dirtbag who had access to the secured public storage lot where I store my boat made his way in and helped himself to the wakeboard rack on my boat. I'm not sure exactly why this piece of garbage felt it necessary to steal what others have worked hard for - I suppose he's too lazy to put in the effort to earn things when he can just take them from others.

Rant off.

Hope you see him! I tend to find a way to engrave my initials, hidden, into just about everything i buy. Paranoid maybe but I grew up constantly having my dirtbikes and stuff stolen.

I live in NC but close to Myrtle Beach SC. Once tourist season begins a lot of things grow legs.

The way criminals think is this: "Why buy it when I can steal it!" It makes me mad. ThrottleBack has the right idea which helps in prevention of theft and recovery of the item.

Thieves are everywhere aren't they! My truck was broken into two years ago and I caught the guy by following his movement via the charges on the stolen credit card - no such benefit this time but I'm trying! Spoke to a bunch of local shops to see if they've had recent theft problems or if anyone had tried to pawn some boating equipment but came up dry.

I hate giving up but at this point I might not have a choice - I hope the lack of rubber gasket on the inside of the forks damages his wakeboard!

Hate to add to your misery, but I'd say there's a good chance the thieves cut up your wake rack and sold it for scrap. They probably saw nothing more than a substantial amount of easily accessible high quality metal.

A couple years ago, some punks near Gainesboro, TN stole the spare off my boat trailer. I had pre-positioned truck and trailer for take out after a 300-mile trip on the Cumberland River. I had a 200 mile tow back to Louisville without a spare. At night.

Grrr. Makes my blood boil just reading about it. I cuss thieving barsterds whenever I have to unlock my car in my own driveway...always inconvenient.

Thinking of mounting an phone charging dock in the car, with this installed on my Android phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...tics.android.motiondetectorpro.activity&hl=en

Would really only be good for when I'm on the water, and if I have another phone for emergencies, but it could help. Sends detected images directly to the cloud.

For the house I have a wireless camera system that works pretty well. I will dig up the link to it later and post, I will have to look at the DVR because i forget what it is.

For other things like my storage at my moms, my garage, and on my hunting equipment in the woods I own a few Primos BlackOut TruthCams. They take photo or video and are completely incognito the robber will never know they are there with some careful and clever mounting. And I can tell you from experience they are admissible in court. Batteries last about 6 months if you turn them off when you are working in that area, ie the garage. High traffic areas pictures are better because it will trip all the time.

At about $99 a peice they can save you a lot. If you mount it right in the boat nobody is even going to notice it.

edit: ask the local DNR or authority if you have issues in your area. I have found many will let you hang up one of these with a security cable when you are on the water or hunting. There is a parking area here during hunting season that is state owned. We had some robbery issues and the DNR allowed me to hang the camera as long as they knew where it was and were given access to the memory card. They used my camera to make 3 arrests and prosecutions.

If the OP storage facility is not recording they are A) fools and B) likely to be happy for a renter to put something up.

I thought about that but there is a ton of aluminum and other metal just laying around on boats nearby, some even on the ground and it wasn't touched. These guys had to use a long handled T-allen wrench to get the rack off which is a lot of work for scrap when so many other options were just lying around. Monetary wise there are several fish finders, gps', trolling motors and the like laying around in the open and they were not touched either (thank goodness). I think whoever stole my rack wanted it for their own boat - they even took the mounting screws!

Exactly right - my truck was broken into two years ago and I caught the guy thanks to a security camera. I bought a $49 camera, a $25 dvr card for a extra desktop I had laying around, and then added a $40 motion detection floodlight and I have GREAT security footage of my entire driveway.

I currently have a Primos truth 35 cam set up around my boat waiting to catch a return thief. And yes, the storage place was less than interested I suffered a loss. On one hand I want to move but I'm paying a very reasonable price for all year round covered storage. Maybe a one time theft I can handle but if it happens again I'm outta there....
