I have a 2009 Stingray 185lx with a 3.0 Volvo GS. After engine is warm and boat is at idle it runs between 175-180 degrees. While cruising or whatever it will be around 185-190. The hose going from the thermostat housing to the circulating pump get really hot. Also the valve cover gets pretty hot too. Not too familiar with I/O's, is thus fairly common? Today I replaced the thermostat and pulled the water pump and replaced the impeller. Boat seemed to do the same thing on muffs in my driveway. Anybody have any ideas? First post by the way..

Welcome!
Sounds like the riser/ manifold could be clogged?
Pull the boot on the riser and see how much corrosion is there?

How long have you had this boat? Has it always ran at these temps, as indicated on the guage?

I just got this boat a couple months ago. I ran tubes for about 4 hours today. The gauge never got above 182 or there abouts. Just kind of concerns me on that big hose getting hot to the touch. No alarms or anything like that...

I have a similar boat/motor as yours and my temp runs consistently between 175 and 180, these gauges are never perfect so perhaps your gauge is a bit off? (or maybe mine is :joyous:) Do you have a Temp sensor gun you can test the temperature at various parts of the engine, that may help isolate the issue. There could also be a slight blockage in your thermostat or a bit of corrosion in your riser as suggested earlier.

Bonder's suggestion on a heat gun is good.
I have one , paid $16 and it removes all doubt.
That motor should run at 180 all day.
You said it gets up to 190 then said it runs at 180 all the time??
Oh yea 180d IS HOT to the touch.

Maybe it's fine and I'm just paranoid. I have installed a new thermostat and impeller so maybe that's the normal temp for my boat. Thanks for all the replies.
On a side note, I installed the smart tabs sx the other day. Wow what a difference! Might have lost a little on time end but planes out great!
