Do any of you have experience with Tracker welded boats? We are thinking about maybe getting into a new boat probably in the fall, and we're trying to decide ahead of time what we want to buy. In the tracker line we've decided the Targa series would best fit our needs (even though I really want a Tournament V18). I've read allot of negative opinions on the Tracker Marine fiberglass stuff (Mako, Sea Craft, Tahoe), makes me wonder about the quality of the new aluminum stuff.

We have also looked at Lund and Alumacraft.

Re: Thinking about a Tracker

I saw one that had some spot welds tear out of the bottom causing significant leaks. I should mention that the owner wasn't the least bit afraid of rough water and pushed the boat harder than most of us would. But that's no excuse. Rough water should never be enough to cause structural problems to Any boat. A rock pile would be a different story. But a rough water boat that can't handle rough water is pretty worthless IMHO. I should also mention that it was an early production boat. Maybe they've ironed that glitch out by now. They took a pretty active interest in that boat.

There's several around here that are doing just fine. I've seen some older Trackers that have had problems, mostly due to owner neglect, but the newer ones, at least 2000 and on seems to be just fine. ;)

My stepfather has a 18ft tracker with a 60hp tracker outboard and loves it. He's had it for about 1 year without any problems at all. He mainly uses it on the intercoastal waterway and local rivers.

I've heard bad things about Tracker cutting corners, but man that Avalanche is one fine machine.

*Drool*...

I have owned a 1996 Tracker tournament V-17/ 60 hp Mercury since it was new, only a few problems and it is still running. I use it several times a week. I was looking for a welded tracker until I was offered a fiberglass bass boat for loan payoff. Working on that deal.

Rockonafly

Yeah, it's pretty slick. I told my local Tracker guy to give me a call next time he gets one in so I can see one in the flesh. Apparently they're selling them as fast as they can make them. But, from a practical point of view, at least for me, I'd save some money and buy the Tournament V-18. It's all most as much boat and easier on the wallet.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
