My local dealer has a used but in nice shape 15 foot Blue water spirit runabout 1996.

It's seats 4 back to back and has a open bow with 2 more forward seating.

I was wonder what people thought of the quality of these boats.

Also if 75 hp is enough to get to plane with 4 people.

They want $4200.00

Looks to be in nice shape. Just be aware that this boat is really for 2 adults plus kids. 4 adults would need more boat.

Kelly Cook

Agree with KCook.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a boat with that Force engine, unless, you are REALLY into tinkering and maintenance.

Looks decent enough, but that boat will get real small real quick, and not be amazingly fast with 4 adults out on the water. If it is mainly just being used by you and the better half, it would be fine. Just make sure that Force is running good, and make sure you stay on top of it. Force motors will run alright if the owner does the appropriate preventive mainenance. Many people have had good luck with Force, but many more have had horrible luck with them. As with anything mechanical, I tend to feel that a large percentage of those who have had bad luck with them probably practiced poor maintenance, and could probably make an anvil break down if given the chance.

First of all Welcome to IBOATS.
Blue Water Boats are not a entry level boat. IE: First boat buyers boat! And this is only from 1988-1994.. not 1996.. things change. But when we were selling against them we had to put SeaRays etc agains't them, very well made boats.
As for the motor goes by 1996 Merc made a lot of changes for the "Old Force/ Chylser" motors.. but a very straight forward motor.. anyone can work on them without special tools.
Boat is great and the motor is ??
But 15 feet can get real small real quick!

My .02 Cents

I have had my 1991 blue water for 4 years now and other than the carpet getting trashed by a 65lbs sturgen it has been a great boat. I think for cruising around the lake, fishing and water sports that boat would work well for 4 people.I think that it might be a little underpowered for a fat guy to slolom behind. We pull tubes and wake board behind my buddies 75 hp starcraft and it is 17'long.
That is a sharp looking little boat!
I would buy that bluewater in a second, the force I might have to think about though.
