Thinking of bigger boat

I already have 2 footitis, except I got the 4 foot version! Now that I got my project boat ('78 20' Grady White I/O w/ 165 Mercuiser IL6) running the way it should be, I am looking (keeping my eyes open) for a 24 footer (the Grady White Offshore model). I would like to stay with an I/O. I have learned quite a bit on this project and would feel pretty comfortable doing it again, this time with a V8. My question is this: I would be looking for a '80's hull and would rebuild the engine if need be, I would prefer staying away from the compuer ignition and stay with the set-up I have now (petronix magnetic pick-up / points replacement). The wiring is very simple, easy to connect and trouble shoot. Does anybody have an opinion on my "plan"? I am also comfortable with the Mercruiser outdrive, they seem pretty straight forward. How much power would I expect from a s/b chevy (350) w/ a 4bbl?

That's been known as the Merc. 260 for Many Years.......<br />Find 1 with the T-bolt IV ignition,+ You'll be Very Comfortable in it........<br />Even an Old 1, with a Mod.1 drive like your's will run Forever...........<br /><br />I've got the 4'itis Too............<br />21' Starcraft Islander,<br />To a 25' Old Town Atlantis.........

Hey bondo.........the IL6 seems to be running strong. Have even had her outside the inlet a few times.....sure is great on gas!<br /><br />What is the T-bolt IV ignition? Is it some kind of module? I like the petronix set-up.....it's very simple.....especially with the shift interupt.

What is the T-bolt IV ignition?

The Standard Mercruiser Ignition....<br />ThunderBolt IV.......<br />superceded a few years ago by the T-Bolt V.........<br />About the Simplest, Reliable, Ignition System out there......
