Thinking of changing to hand control trolling motor

My Tracker came with a bow mount foot control trolling motor. The tm is great and works fine, but I find myself spending more time on the control pedal than fishing. Maybe I just haven't gotten the hang of it yet, but I'm seriously thinking of moving to a hand control bow mount tm. Then I can just reach over and move the handle. When I'm in that front seat I feel like the control pedal is right under me and it puts my leg and foot in an awkward position, making steering difficult. Anyone else experience this?

Re: Thinking of changing to hand control trolling motor

I have had both types of bow mount trolling motors... and I can say hands down, once you get used to controlling the foot pedal one you would never go back to a hand control... Like anything it will just take some time and practice to get used to it.

You will end up spending more time making corrections with the hand control (which means putting down your pole, or stop cranking to free up a hand), then its worth.

If you can get the hang of the foot pedal it will keep your hands free and is better off in the long run...

I have a hand control bow mount now, and would kill for a footpedal model, but I can't afford to shell out 800+ for this "luxury" :( .

If the foot pedal is in an awkward position for you, it can be relocated... you just have the old screw holes to think about...

Good luck with whichever you decide.
