Viscosity.

To get it through a gun.

Which gun ?

Ayuh,.... Use a bigger tip....

For what gun ? A dumper ?

I have for many threads described how you can do a full gel job .. what materials and tools included with my posts.

Why you guys keep slammin or simply disregard others for even speculation on gelcoat application is beyond me.

The guy is just asking us ..he wants to know the best way to apply gel .. Do you know how ? .. I do ..

Re: Thinning Gelcoat

Yes I do know how, spray it literally everyday (in a mold where it was intended to be sprayed), haven't thinned any of it yet, don't see the need. Right equipment and tip and it sprays fine right out of the 5 gallon pail.

I don't see where anyone has slammed anyone???....just wondering why he needs to thin. Viscosity is a given, YD...guess I should have said "What's wrong with the viscosity as it is?" If it won't spray with the gun you have then you have the wrong equipment.

The orginal question was that he can't find the stuff to thin Gel Coat with and the best reply was Post #4...neither.

So sorry if you took offense to the posts.....I for one, had no intention of slamming anyone, just responding to a post.

You dont know how to apply gel post mold .. that is fine ..

Why do you suggest you know how to post gel a boat ? ..

In the Mold is .. a given .. post gel is a lost art :) ..

You spray a 45 deck .. wetsand .. buff.. then and only then will you know what Im saying ..

I have sprayed a couple of boats with gel (17' not 45') and to me it's not worth the effort, painting is a better way to go (to me anyway) I think the "lost art of post gelcoat" is a lost art for a reason, there are paints now that are much easier to do. (Now for spot repairs gelcoat...yes, just not for an entire boat) We all have opinions and this is just mine.....

And frankly YD you have no idea what I can or cannot do, just as I don't know what you can or cannot do.

I apologize to Billythepokerkid as this has nothing to do with your question.....
