This global warming *** is getting way out of hand

I have a freind that has an eight year old girl in public school. She is so upset about global warming that she is a complete mess. She isn`t sleeping, not eating, her schoolwork is getting worse. She actually cry`s when they start a fire in there woodburning stove because she thinks that her parents are killing the envionment. She has a fit when they use the cars too much. Won`t turn an lights in the bathroom or in her room. She is completely over the edge on this.

No, these are good freinds of ours, I have seen it with my own eyes. Her exact words to her folks are. "My teacher says"! That`s the main coriculem in science class.

Not to start another conflagration, but an awfol lot of evidence points to the fact that it is happening.....
Hard to say what the cause truly is or if anything can be done about it.......
Maybe they should take it up with the local school board.......
My niece is a pain in the *** with veganism.....
Children can be easily swayed......:/

To me this sounds more like a problem with the kid than the school. I suppose you would rather have the school NOT teach kids to try to use less energy etc.... More than likely the teacher said something about how its a good idea to conserve, and she misunerstood and took everything literally.......because thats what kids do.

It amazes me how quick some people are here to judge the teacher and the school without knowing anything about the situation except from LD.....who is terciary souce at best in the situation.

I never thought humans were powerful enough to cause global warming(which is likely happening as the Earth does this on an unscheduled based from time to time) but HM seems to have enough hot air to cause the icecaps to melt. I may have beachfront property someday. JK and Thanks. Chief 8)

You're right, kids do take things literally. Who best to know that? Maybe an Elementary School teacher? Also, my oldest (now 18 ) who is very "normal", was deeply perplexed about the origin of the stars and the planets when he was 10. They are deep thinkers at that age. When a teacher says that the ice caps are melting, and that the sea is rising, and that Polar Bears are gonna be wiped out, kids believe them. They also think it is serious. Not so sure you should jump to the conclusion that the kid is defective either . . .

I didnt really mean it that way....I guess I would want to know how the other kids are reacting. Yes I realize that a teacher should know better than anyone else that kids take things literally, but for the sake of argument........if no other kid is reacting that way, than what should you assume?

Plus like I said we are hearing this from a souce at least 2 mouths down the line.....the odds of things getting out of proportion to this point are good too.

This is another example of parenting that needs to extend beyond driving the kids to soccer practice.

Who knows if or how Global Warming is being taught to this child, but last time I checked there is still people that have the ultimate power over children: Parents. The parents should be talking with this child, at the childs level, and helping the child to keep things in perspective. No parents I know, including myself, would let a child get this worked up. I wouldn't go on a Burn The Public Mind Control School binge either. The information has been distorted somwhere, or the child has absorbed it in an unhealthy manner, and the parents need to seriously talk with the child.

Focused obsession is a common and normal thing in that age range.

I had the good (?) fortune to have the Nazis and the Japanese to be obsessed about, my baby sister nearly had a nervous breakdown over radioactive fallout from nuclear tests destroying humanity.

It is not global warming or the fuss about it that has this child freaking out, it is being 10 years old.

was anyone that age when killer bees starting making there way up central america? predictions were that they would be in the US in just a few years, bad movies, all the BS. it was enough to make me and my friends think about it at the time. it was pretty stupid and sensationalized by the media.

history is what's being overlooked. someone else mentioned it, the planet has warmed and cooled before and it will continue regardless of our lame attempts to control it.
