Hey guys. First post sorry its so long. For starters I last year I bought an 18" 86' Chris Craft with a 305 merc. It ran great all year with only minor problems that I'll get to in a bit. Long story...less long I must not have winterized it correctly. This spring while getting my prize ready for the water I noticed a long crack in the block. So now it motor swappin time. The donor motor is a post 86' 350 that I have jammed in a Chevy S-10 right now. Its a standard bore block with flat tops and a balanced rotating assembly. The heads are cast world II racing heads 2.02 exh. 1.60 int. with no extra port or machine work done. Intakes just an edelbrock performer. I know what it ran like in the S-10 but boats are another world. Does this sound like a good setup? I need some cam suggestions what do you guys think? Boats for family fun and a fast run once and a while. Will the carb from the 305 merc deliver enough fuel or am I carb shopping too? Ok, on to the outdrive. It has 1.65 gears in it. From what I read this isn't gonna be good with more power. Can I correct the wrong/bad with a different pitch on the prop or not? When i take the outdrive off what should I replace as "maintenance" Last year when shifting it would clunk. not real hard but it was there. If u were slow it word grind. Is it time for a lower cable to or just an adjustment? I have more but I'm sure you're tired of reading. sorry. Thanks for the time and the help. great forum!
