I posted about a 50hp 1972 mercury lower unit. Can I retrofit the unit that I have onto the motor that I have? There is more about the unit on my original post.
Thanks for your help!
JSaw

Are you refering to the gearcase that does not fit?

IF so...you might be able to take the parts out of it and put them into your old case.

TMD

Re: This is for marine doctor

The problem is that I don't have an old case. I also have drilled the holes out on the midsection but now the alighnment pen doesn't line up. I figured if i got rid of the alighnment pin that I could retrofit the unit but there is some more differences. The water pump drive shaft and reverse gears are different part #'s But everything else seems to be the same according to epc. I just don't want to put this unit on and have major problems. Purchased unit as used and don't want to have to purchase a new unit.

Thank you for your replies!
JSaw

I do not think that the driveshaft will line up properly.

You are probebly not going to be able to get them to work together.

When we came across this problem at the shop..we did not continue with the install. If it is not something that we feel we can warranty..we will not do it.

TMD

The unit is on the motor the only thing that is keeping me from getting it all the way up is the alighnment pin that is on the unit. I believe if i got rid of the pin that the unit would go completely up but I don't want to put the unit up there and then have some kind of gear failure for having the wrong unit on there. Like I said that the units are real simalar but do have some differences.

Thank you!
JSaw
