GOOD NEWS. . . . The PICTURE UPLOAD FUNCTION IS WORKING !!! The tech folks at the parent company have been able to remedy the issue. You can upload pictures once again. Thank you for your patience.
Diversion dams have earned the nickname "drowning machine" and rightly so.

They are always extremely dangerous and this amount of water flow, just made it worse. I won't go near one.

The fact that some did not have on life vests, probably didn't help any.

Diversion dams are bad news all around and should be avoided like the life-endangering plague, they are.

Sad stuff
Tragic, for sure. Knowing how to deploy a anchor quickly (assuming this boat had one) in a situation can make the difference between life and death. I make my family practice emergency anchor setting once a year just for this type of situation.
I do not think they had an anchor. I purchased my first boat a few years ago from this dealer. After seeing this accident, only a mile from my house, my wife and I remembered that on our test drive the boat had nothing on it. Same area of the river. I do not know for sure though, but the owners son, whom was one of the victims, would have defineitly knew to do that.
