...but I have to ask. I am replacing the stringers and floor in my boat. Do I just screw the new decking to the stringers? Sounds simple no?

You can if you like. My suggestion is after you bed the deck in and after it sets up then to remove the screw and fill in the hole with some thickened resin.

bigredinohio, Why is that? Does leaving the deck screwed down cause problems? Thanks for the reply.

Re: This may be a dumb question...

From some of the threads i have read on here some guys will PL the deck down and screw it down, some will screwit down and 5200 the hole, some will do like rhino said.

I will be making this decision shortly myself.

Overtime, the screw will work itself loose and start to back out due to the vibration of the boat. If that happens, your glassing could be jeopardized and water might be able to seep through the hole and start rot. I don't like to have any areas of bare wood that would or could be exposed to water.

Again, that's my opinion. You are more then welcome to leave the screws in but I would definitely make pilot holes and add some pb or 5200 before running them in just for insurance.

By the way, not a stupid question.

Are you planning on bedding (gluing) your deck down? If so, what are you planning on using?

Make sure to buy your 3m 5200 at home depot NOT a marine store, HD has it for 11 bux for a large tube, marine stores charge 16 for the small tube. In my area anyways.

Well I hadnt thought too much about it yet... I had intentions on running a heavy bead of silicone on the stringers and then screwing the deck down with exterior coated deck screws. Then use epoxy and mat over the wood decking? Bad idea?

Silicone will break down since it's a sealant and not an adhesive. I would use a waterproof adhesive like PL Premium or like product. Everything else you stated should work fine.

Coated the top of my stringers with thickened epoxy (PB), then screwed the deck down w/stainless steel deck screws with the heads of the screws about an 1/8' below the surface. Filled in over the screw heads w/PB and covered entire deck w/mat & epoxy. Them screws aren't going anywhere.

Re: This may be a dumb question...

Thanks everyone for answering my questions. I'm putting up plastic sheeting around the hull to contain the dust and to be able to heat the area when I'm ready to put the epoxy down. I have full PPE and ready to get dirty. I thought I'd put up some pics of what I've got myself into.... She should be a good little boat when I'm finished... Thanks again all and please excuse the mess I'm in mid prep :)
