Merged the topics. Please dont start multiple topics about the same subject.

Those manuals probably never existed, even when new. Any owners manual that came w the boat would have been extremely basic info, and a little about safety and wearing a PFD.

Its often a guessing game, esp if in 40+yrs any owner has hacked into the woring or made any changes.

Is the engine/outdrive running currently? If not, might consider a different project.

Try getting ahold of the folks at Cruisers yachts. I Believe Cruisers and Thompson used to be the same family at one time. perhaps they can point you in the right direction?

Thanx for the info. Currently can't get the outdrive lowered. Everything looks good for its age. Thought I'd try here before I pass on the project. It was in the water last year. Previous owner is unavailable for information.

'76 OMC is an electric shift stringer. The majority of people on the forums will tell you to walk away from that drive package: OMC has been out of business since the 90s, the stringer hasn't been built since the 80s and they gave up on electric shift in the 70s.

I like the OMC, but they can be finicky and they are definitely a vintage setup that you'll have to take care of. Many marine techs won't work on 'em, and some parts are getting harder (if not impossible) to find. You can't re-power this boat to a Volvo or Mercruiser without doing a rebuilt job on the transom and hull.

If you're not into the idea of maintaining a vintage sterndrive ... don't do this to yourself. Lotsa' cool ole' boats out there with Mercruiser setups you can still get parts for or easily re-power.

The tilt issue is most likely the tilt motor on the lower port side of the intermediate (inside the transom nearly in the bilge). If you're not in a yoga position with a manifold pressing one eyebrow, you're not looking far enough back into the engine bay. The motors are pretty famous for needing to be pulled and cleaned/rebuilt.

:welcome:

Removed the quadrant gear and lowered the outdrive. Engine purrs like a kitten. Now it's time to remove the tilt motor and find out why it doesn't raise or lower.
