Going to look at a pontoon boat but learned it has a 90hp Evinrude ETEC engine from 2012, give or take a year.

I had planned to get a 4 stroke engine so I am somewhat concerned

I called a local marina to confirm they still service them. They had great things to say about the ETECH's.

They dont seem to get a lot of good news online.

Should I be concerned?
Should I look stick with a 4 stroke? It would be from 2010 to maybe 2020 given our price range.

The gen 1 Evinrude E-tec is the finest outboard ever made....IMHO.

Go to barnacle bills Evinrude web site and learn anything a you need to know about these fine motors.

my 2005 75hp kid brother twin of a 90 hp (same hardware) has been a dream machine for 20 years now.

but.... these engine require pampering...good fuel good filtering...2+4d gas conditioner recommended. I run EV engine cleaner, I store FULLY fueled 6 months per year in winter after circulating 2+4D before storage and NEVER had start up problems in the Spring
get manual from this list ..... do some reading

in 20 years all I had basically was a known NO oil code 38 Software & pump problem fixed by BRP. T&T needed a reseal but next one I will do myself!!

Obviously ETECs are a dying breed thanks to BRP 's demise but...has Saltchuck indicated ...they are fine machine.

EV diagnostic version 5.9 is recommended to scan the EMM'S brain in case of problems . see article

Visit BB ETEC board where ETEC owners hang out :)
