[FONT=&quot]Hey all, I'm thinking about getting a Johnson JW series if I run across one. I have some experinces with the Johnson HD-25 and TN-series, and I'm wondering how the JW would compare against them. Do any parts interchange between them? Is the JW quieter and run smoother than the HD series? Aside from the exterior paint and the gas tank mount, were there any major changes to the JW series?

Probably one of the sweetest running little motors ever made. No relationship at all with the HD-TN models. The major change came in the 1970's when they made it a 4hp with a fiberglass hood and remote gas tank. But still the same basic motor inside.

I agree, a well tuned JW will let you almost hear the revolutions as it idles along! Power wise, not quite at a TN level, but close, considering its only 3hp compared to the TNs 5hp. They are more quiet while running than either the HD or TN in my opinion.

Great little motors, but as stated, completely different beast from the HD and TD and TNs.
