That's too bad, but guess it's gonna happen from time to time. My brother burned up in a gasoline fire 35 years ago, and even now, I think about it when I'm gassing up my boat, lawn mower, whatever....all it takes is those @#$% fumes and a little spark!...and everything changes forever!...

Makes you wonder if auto parts were used in place of marine grade parts, with the usual excuse that "Marine grade parts are the same as auto parts, with a higher price"....

It's the "it won't happen to me" mentality and we're all guilty of it from time to time. Running an outboard now, but I don't know how many times I've started boats over the years with only running the blower for 20-30 seconds or without even turning it on and then going, "oops, I forgot the blower". This is a sad story and I feel for those guys and hope they make it out ok. If so, there's going to be lot of pain yet to come. God be with them.

My boat has an alarm that when you turn the key to the on position it will go off telling you there are fumes in the engine compartment.

I think the sensor is attached to the bilge auto fire system
