New here. I have a 2010 Bayliner 175 Mercruiser 3.0 TKS (1A634804) Alpha one. I bought the boat last year from the original owner an older guy that did not put too many hours on it at all. It ran OK to me, but I am by no means an expert at listening to engines. As I got to know the boat better I noticed three things:
1. A hesitation on acceleration at low rpms, it would bog down. Had to go through the throttle easy to accelerate.
2. Dieseling at times. Annoying.
3. Hard to restart when hot most times.
I did a lot of reading here. I cleaned the terminals at the starter, fully charged the battery and checked the timing. Base timing was at 1 deg BTDC. My spark arrestor sticker states it needs to be at 2 deg ATDC. I followed the timing procedure posted here on this forum. I also adjusted the idle to 800 rpm. Bottom line.... all three troubles are gone and it hardly vibrates at all. I had it out on the lake today and it ran like a top! Did multiple hot restarts and they were all perfect! No hesitation on throttle, bogging down. No dieseling at all. Thanks to the forum and its posters for helping me out! Much appreciated!. Now I just need to figure out the darn trim gauge! That's next. hahah
