I have 1997 bayliner 1950 with a 3.0 LX alpha1. i have been having trouble with my idle of late it won't
go back to is normal operating rpms 700-750. When I bring it out of gear
the RPMS run around 1500 to 2000 much to high. Upon futher inspection I have found that the throtle does not
go back all the way and hit the idle cam. I can move it by hand and it goes back to normal and hits the idle cam.
I have tried W-D40 on it and even tried to grease the cable with no results. My question is there some type of
adjustment on the cable that I can do myself or do I need to bring it to a mechanic. It is a standard Quicksilver shifter that comes with boat

Re: throtle cable

The throttle cable should be putting some pressure on the carb to push it back and hold idle. I am not familiar with the adjustment of it though.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... Ya oughta be able to do it yerself, it's pretty simple, 'n fairly easy to get too,...

Right at the carb, pull the cable end off,...
just aft, where the cable attaches is the swivel barrel, pull it out, 'n adjust the cable by spinnin' it 'round the cable,...
So's the cable exerts just the slightest pressure, against the carb's idle adjustment screw,...

put the cotter pins, 'n/ or nuts back on, 'n yer Good to Go,...
