throtle cables

my 40 hp 96 model the cables are cracked right at motor and i can see like 1/2 inch exposed.is this ok or do i need to think about replacing.if so how do i now wat kind and length i need without taking them out to find out.

The cracks are gonna lead to new cables someday.For now spray them with WD or any lubricating spray.
The size is syammped on one end of the cable.You have Morse type 3300CC type.It will be marked inches,maybe in feet.
Usually if the cable is cracking at the bend going into the motor it could mean the cable is too short.Post a pic of the front of your motor.Yours are 14 years old they might just be getting old.J

I was wrong about the cables.The 96's take Mercury style cables.Gettin old and CRS.J
