91 70 hp johnson every time I start the engine I have to throttle it up to keep it running. The key choke will start it but will not keep it running have to throttle up to 1500-1800 for a minute and then it runs great Air temp is only in the 40-50 degree range Carbs rebuilt and fuel pump replaced???

Are you asking if the carbs and pump should be rebuilt or stating thats been done? We kind of think youre saying thats been done.

If so theres a few things to look at. Has it always done this (even in warmer weather) or just now? How old is the fuel? What grade? What spark plugs?

Re: throtle up to Start??

Sounds normal to me. I have the same motor and when it's cold out(And even warm, sometimes), I have to bump the choke(Primer) using the key switch a couple of times or it will die out. I pump up the bulb, push in on the key switch for a count of 5, lift the throttle probably half way up and start it. I hope that's the jest of the question.

Mine starts the same way also. Fast idle lever up(halfway) bump the primer a couple few times until she settles down.
Some are just more cold blooded than others I guess.

83 Johnson 90hp
