Hello everyone. I have a 1963 Johnson Evinrude motor on a 1962 Larson runabout. I've had it out many times within the past few days, and it's been running great until I put it on the water today. It always starts right up without any problems, but today it would not run at full throttle. I was only able to bump the throttle up just a 2 or 3 clicks, and not enough to even register any speed on the speedometer. If I clicked up the throttle any higher it would hesitate and just die on me. Before, you'd be clocking along pretty good and then you would push the throttle lever all the way down it would hesitate for maybe a second and then jump up to full throttle, now it just hesitates and dies. There was a few things I was thinking it good be. Perhaps I have the mixture wrong with the gas and there's too much oil fouling my spark plugs? What is the correct mix? I've heard 50:1 and I've heard 25:1 I'm running something in between the two because it's half the engine from 1963 and the other half from late 60s early 70s. I was thinking possibly the carb needs to be gone through again or maybe I need to replace some old hoses or something. Anyone have any ideas? I leave the choke on automatic which seemed to be fine before, but now I can't get the boat moving fast enough to even register a speed. I was going like 20 before. Thanks in advance for the help.
