I just replaced my aluminum 19P for an 18P stainless prop. boat is an 20' chappy 2000SL with a 5.8 rated at 4000-4400 RPM.
The aluminum 3 blade pushed 4200 RPM 48 MPH with just me in the boat. Now with the 18P SS the RPM increased to 4800 may have even gone to 5000. (driver only) I'm would rather have plenty of power to accomidate a full load of people fuel and gear and simply throttle back a little to keep within RPM spec. speed isn't an issue I can go plenty fast. Is there any reason this could be a bad move, I'm the only one who drives the boat I can even paint a 4500 redline on the tach just to remind me not to go over.
And just for what it's worth the TurboSS 3B prop 18P got me 600-800 R's over the aluminum mich wheel 3B 19P.

Since your tests were with what i would consider a light load, you are probably ok so long as you keep an eye on the tach. Once you load the boat up with a few folks you may be able to hammer down and not over rev.

I'm no expert but from reading here I would probably have gone with the same pitch. But this does give you plenty of power just watch your revs.

If you get real worried about it or have a hard time backing off in time or getting people to listen, etc... MSD makes a generic marine engine rev limiter for a couple hundred bucks...
