Throttle Button?

Ok, so this may be a dumb question, but on my 1987 Regal Sebring XL 150 with a Mercury Mercruiser I/O 165, my throttle lever has a "Throttle Only" button towards the bottom of the lever. It's below the Bow Up/Down switch, and literally is a square push button, but I can't figure out what it does. I tried playing with it on the lake, but as soon as I put it in gear, what I thought I had pushed the button, dosen't do anything. Someone told me you're able to push that, then throttle up or down to "rev the engine in neutral" but it dosen't seem to work that way for me. Anyone know of what it is? It's an older boat and I'm not sure being a first boat buyer if it's an only older model feature or what. Any help is appreciated!

Re: Throttle Button?

You can't simply "push" the button and then move the throttle forward to stay in neutral, you have to hold the button depressed "in" and move then throttle forward (at least that is way my quicksilver shifter is). if I simply push the button in and then try to move the throttle forward, it "pops" the button back out and goes into gear. I have to hold the button depressed in until I move the throttle about 2"-3" forward, then i can let go of the button and it will stay in neutral. Maybe you can try holding the button in with one hand while advancing the throttle lever forward. This may help.

Re: Throttle Button?

As stated above you must keep the throttle only button depressed while you move the lever to forward or reverse. It takes two hands to do this.

Thanks for the help, I'll try it in the next few days when I'm back on the boat.
