throttle cable adjustment

Someone at my marina told me I could adjust the sensitivity of the throttle control by making some adjustments at the throttle housing in the helm. Is this true and if so how complicated is it? Thanks.

Just so we're all on the same page. What do you mean by "sensitivity"? And what are you looking to do?

Do you have DTS? single lever or 2 levers?

Re: throttle cable adjustment

I have two levers, one for the port drive and one for the starboard drive. By sensitivity, I mean when I advance the throttle in forward or reverse it is hard to tell when it actually engages the gear and then the is some travel in the shifter before the throttle begins to increase the RPM.

DTS or not (and btw which one do you have). The shifters SHOULD put the drives into gear BEFORE they start advancing the throttle. There's always going to be a bit of travel before the rpm's start to climb, and that's the way it's supposed to work.
If it's hard to tell... then why? Is there no thump? (that would be a good thing)
Do your tach's not register a drop in rpm when you shift? They should.
Is this a new boat to you? Maybe your still in the learning curve of the whole operation of it all.

Re: throttle cable adjustment

Thanks Captjason. I've only owned this boat for 48 hours. I'm definetly on a learning curve. My last boat was much smaller and had a Bravo III. This one has twin Alpha 1s. The Bravo III seemed to clunk into gear with less hesitation.
What does DTS stand for? The gears do thump. I have not noticed if the RPM drops when I put it in gear, but I will look for it next time.

Re: throttle cable adjustment

DTS stands for digital throttle and shift. Basically its electric shifting... no cables... and it works slicker than ship. :)

the alpha's use a shift cutout switch. when you come out of gear and go back into neutral the engines should hesitate for a moment, then idle normally.
That's there by design. Its also something the Bravo does not use because of a different style clutch.
