back again with more questions; I want to replace the t cable for this motor, it's on an 18ft boat and the length is not an issue but finding a cable that fits is.

I have been unable to find a part number or cross reference. I've also been unable to locate a "how to" video or something similar for replacement. Any ideas?

Do you not have the old cable to measure? If the control box is OEM, it will use standard OMC/BRP cables for 1979 & up motors. If the control box is aftermarket, you would need to work with whatever the manufacturer of the box provides.

The old cable you took out has a part number heat-stamped in it. Usually by the engine end. White letters stamped in the black casing. The last numbers are the length, such at 12, 13, etc,. If you can decipher the part number you can figure out who made it and get an exact replacement.

no white numbers on a black casing. Only the words, "Teleflex made in the USA". I measured the cable, it's 14 ft loa but cannot find out if they are the 3033 cable or the 479 cables. Seems the shop manual for this motor is scarcer than hens teeth..

If that is an OMC box then it should use Type 479 cables.

The 85 shift/throttle cables in 14' length is factory part number: 173114. These cables vary in length in 1' increments. So a 13' would be 173113, a 15' cable would be 173115.
