Hello All~

I have a 1988 Bayliner Capri with a Force 125HP
The motor works fine.....
However when not in neutral it doesn't accelerate.
The prior owner had pulled off the sides to reappolster and we suspect some of the connections for the throttle were not correctly reconnected.

any guides on how to hook up the throttle?

Hello,
My first day on Iboats, as I kinda just stumbled on this website as I was googling a question on my throttle... I too just got my boat back from an upholstery guy and now my boat will not start. My outdrive works, lights come on, gauges work, everything works but when i go to turn the ignition to the last notch to turn the boat on, I get nothing.... not a click, not anything.. (worked before I took to him) I also noticed that the guy did not put the throttle assembly on right.. there was a lot of play and was not assembled correctly...

Could this cause my boat not to start, if not assembled correctly?

I took it apart and hooked it back up to what looked right to me and now it seems that everything is moving as it should with the exception of pulling the throttle handle to engage clutch/neutral... I can't get this to pull out, maybe I tightened the mounting hardware to tight? Is this possible, or maybe I just didn't assemble right? Seems right..... but then again, I'm no expert...

anyway, still can't start my boat or put into clutch/neutral? If you know anything, sorry that I can't help you, but I figured between both of our issues, we might get some help... Anyone? Thanks again for all of your time and help

@Xev, post a picture of your controls so folks can see what type you have, to include the back where the cables come in.

@Willster, you should do the same, however you should start your own thread. Yours is a neutral safety switch issue it sounds like.

Wilster, the shifter, try wiggling it as you turn the key.
Then back at the motor, make sure the neutral safety switch is aligned right(yellow/red lead)

I got it, it was all in the assembly of the throttle. Once I assembled correctly and mounted it correctly, the boat turned right on. The upholstery guy only mounted the throttle area (the plate and shifter) and not the second bolt that's about 8 inches to the right that secures the rest of the assembly onto the fiberglass of the boat, hence all the play in the throttle and keeping the throttle from fully engaging neutral or the clutch. So when I would move throttle forward or backward, the whole assembly was moving instead of the cable system...Bummer, but hopefully this helps someone in the future... Thanks again everyone
