My 1991 boat throttle control level is a little stiff at low throttle speeds. I have lubricated all of the fittings in the back of the boat. The same problem exists. I guess the best way to describe the situation is when you are first putting the boat into a throttle condition, it feels like you are pushing the throttle over a "hump". After that, it moves just fine.

What can I do to fix this?

Re: Throttle Control Lever Stiff at Low Idle

I am probably not describing this as well as I could. I am aware of the normal tension felt when going from neutral to gear. I am also used to some tension as you go from forward to the lower RPM range. What I am experiencing is best described in the low to mid and mid to low throttle range. It is very stiff. It is causing problems because when I try to shift from the mid to low throttle range, I can actually "lurch" the boat because of too rapid a change in throttle position. I changed the lower shift cable on the boat recently, however, all other cables are original Mercruiser - 91 Vintage control box.

Any other ideas to check?

about the only other thing you can do is unhook the cables at the control and see if the cable is binding or the control

mine is pretty stiff so it stays in place while i am bounceing of waves

there are a LOT of different controls some have an internal friction adjustment

tommays
