My throttle finally saw its days and broke. Everything was getting tight and a lot of slack in the cable. So my question is.

Can I get a used throttle control from another boat and install it with the same cables that are already there? In other words are the throttle cables universal to all types of throttle controls? and is it a difficult task messing with the cables?

Re: Throttle Control

throttle cables match up to the appropriate engine type. merc uses cables for merc, evunrude uses cables for evinurde.

teleflex makes a standard 3300 "red jacket" style cables, so called cause the have red jackets.

it all depends on what its being removed form and what its going on to

Re: Throttle Control

Im replacing the throttle control not the actual cables. So i was wondering if all cables work with any brand of control?

Re: Throttle Control

Payton, I will bet it depends on the type of motor(and cables) you have. In the old days (1950s-70s) Mercury and Evinrude used a lot of unique designs, after that time, they became more universal. An example of this is fuel line connectors. If you compare the design, now you will see that newer Merc and Johnson/Evinrude outboards use the same (or mostly the same). It looks a lot like the Johnson connector I had on my '59

Re: Throttle Control

my outboard is a 1994 90hp Mariner with a quicksliver throttle control so im hoping i can just get a control off my buddies boat thats just sitting on the trailor and be compatible with the cables. And also how difficult of a job would this be, connecting the cables to the new control?
